Wishing all a Blessed New Year

2020 has just gone by and it was, as the world’s headlines declared,
annus horribilis (Latin for ‘a horrible year’).

Many eventful things that had never before happened within living memory, just happened. But despite the bad things that happened, it was still annus domini, the Lord’s year, as our internationally accepted calendar tells us.

No wonder, the Psalmist reminds us, “For this is the day that the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalms 118:24)

God’s presence and Direction

Fast forward now to A.D. 2021, the Covid-19 battle is still raging and we are thrust on to a journey we have never before trodden.

The Israelites, in the account of the crossing to the Promised Land, similarly have ‘never been this way before.’ Not having gone this way before, they were directed to follow the ark of the covenant of the Lord i.e. God’s presence and direction.

“When you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, and the Levitical priests carrying it, you are to move out from your positions and follow it. Then you will know which way to go, since you have never been this way before.” (Joshua 3:2-4)

Therefore, do not expect any surprises. the world will continue to experience never before things or events. But just like the Israelites, we are reminded to keep our eyes on the Lord and follow Him on a road never trodden and we ‘will know which way to go.’

Let us all obey His command and trust Him to make A.D.2021 annus mirabilis (a miraculous/amazing year).

Over the past several months, the Board has been seeking the Lord on a new strategy ie the way to go, to raise the Ecclesia and advance His Kingdom.

As the strategy unfolded, some of last year’s most talked-about jargon came to mind – ‘new normal’ and ‘reset’. What is the ‘new normal’ and how different is it from the ‘normal’? Is the ‘reset’ a return to the ‘normal’ as many are hoping?

For the world, the ‘normal’ is the fallen world we all along have been living in, and in the ‘new normal’ it will be still a fallen world. They are both actually flawed ‘normals.’ Why? The book of Genesis tells us that we are created in God’s image, and the ‘normal’ that God intended for humanity is for us to live in harmony with Him in a glorious relationship, and in shalom with one another.

Therefore, let our ‘new normal’ as redeemed people be a return to what God designed the world to be. To do so, we need to understand what is God’s design and purpose or ‘telos’ (end goal) for humanity to fulfill the vision He has given our fellowship.

Hence, we are kicking off the year with a series of five videos on the ‘Redemptive Narrative’ to refresh our foundational understanding of God’s ‘telos’ for us.

Do look out for this video series as we will share more about our strategy for the year through them. Following the video series, we will spell out details of our 2021 strategy.

Shalom & God Bless
